Anthropic Academy vs the Partner Academy: Which One Gets You Certified?

Claude Academy vs Partner Academy: why the distinction matters

Public Claude Academy teaches Claude. The Anthropic Partner Academy is where Partner Network members register for proctored exams. Confusing the two is why people think “Claude certification is free,” cannot find registration, or treat a course completion badge as a Credly credential.

Only the Pearson-proctored exams — CCAO-F, CCDV-F, CCAR-F, and CCAR-P — award the Credly certification. Academy badges and Partner Skilljar learning certificates are different products. Facts below follow Pearson’s Anthropic listing, Partner Academy eligibility/policies/FAQ/catalogue pages, public Claude Academy FAQ language, and Anthropic’s blog on the four role-based certifications.

What public Claude Academy is

Claude Academy hosts public courses. Completing required quizzes can award a completion badge. Academy FAQ language says those badges do not expire and distinguishes them from Claude certification exams. Legacy Skilljar certificates remain valid for learners who earned them.

Use public Academy for free skill building (AI fluency, Claude Code topics, human-agent teaming, and similar catalogue offerings). It is not where you pay for or sit CCAO-F, CCDV-F, CCAR-F, or CCAR-P — and finishing every public course does not by itself make you “Claude certified” in the Credly sense.

What the Anthropic Partner Academy is

The Anthropic Partner Academy (Skilljar at anthropic-partners.skilljar.com) is for Claude Partner Network members: partner training, prep resources, policies, eligibility, and exam registration. Skilljar may also issue learning completion certificates — those are still not the Pearson/Credly credential.

After checkout, scheduling continues with Pearson Professional Assessments (candidate portals still widely labeled Pearson VUE, including OnVUE and test centres).

Claude Partner Network gate

Proctored exams are open to people at organisations in the Claude Partner Network. Pearson, Partner Academy eligibility, the Partner FAQ, and Anthropic’s certifications blog all state this. Personal email addresses will not work — you need a company-domain email on the partner record.

  • Gmail/personal domain failures are expected until you use the partner company email.
  • Non-partners can still learn on public Claude Academy and independent prep; they cannot complete proctored registration until affiliation exists.
  • Partner status is organisation-level — finishing free courses does not unlock exam checkout.

Badges vs credentials

  • Claude Academy completion badge — public course learning; FAQ: badges don’t expire.
  • Partner Skilljar completion certificate — partner training activity; not the proctored credential.
  • Credly certification badge — after the Pearson exam (CCAO-F / CCDV-F / CCAR-F / CCAR-P). Valid 12 months from award.

On-time renewal of the proctored credential is a free, non-proctored assessment on Partner Academy. Lapsed credentials require a full paid retake. Major content changes may force a full exam retake instead of the lightweight renewal path.

Eligibility checklist and registration path

  1. Organisation is in the Claude Partner Network; you can sign in with the company-domain email.
  2. You know which code you want: CCAO-F, CCDV-F, CCAR-F, or CCAR-P.
  3. You have read that exam’s guide and policies; you understand list pricing ($99 / $125 / $125 / $175).
  4. Review the exam on Partner Academy → download the guide → register and check out.
  5. Create/sign in to Pearson and schedule online or test-centre proctoring.
  6. On exam day: government photo ID matching your registration name.

Pass score metadata used on this site is 720/1000. Retake waits: 14 / 30 / 90 days; max four attempts per exam per rolling year. Public sources conflict on cancel/reschedule windows (48 hours on some pages, 24 hours in some guide text) — verify for your booking. If the first eligibility steps fail, stop before checkout; third parties cannot bypass Partner Network rules.

Four credentials and how this site fits

  • CCAO-F — Associate Foundations, $99, 60 items, 120 min — non-developer Claude power users.
  • CCDV-F — Developer Foundations, $125, 53 items, 120 min — engineers building with the API, tools, MCP.
  • CCAR-F — Architect Foundations, $125, 60 items, 120 min — agentic architecture, Claude Code, MCP (alias CCA-F).
  • CCAR-P — Architect Professional, $175, 63 items, 120 min — adds solution design, governance, evaluation, stakeholder scope.

There is no mandatory prior-cert chain between them. Always confirm the official code on your Partner Academy registration row before you pay — “CCA-F” search language means Architect Foundations, but Pearson lists CCAR-F.

PrepGenAICerts is independent. Our courses align to exam domains for study; they are not Academy substitutes, do not grant Partner Network status, and do not issue Anthropic credentials. Sensible pairing: official guide + Partner catalogue row → Partner/public Academy for fluency → independent practice here → Pearson schedule when eligibility and prep both look solid.

Role-based first-exam advice: compare page and its path selector. Avoid treating Academy badges as Credly certs, buying exam dumps, assuming Associate is mandatory, or starting with Professional for prestige when your work is still Foundations-scoped.

Common misunderstandings

  • “I finished Academy, so I’m certified.” You earned a learning badge. Certification means the proctored Credly credential for an official exam code.
  • “Certification is free because Academy is free.” Public courses can be free; proctored exams have list fees. Free renewal applies only after you already hold a credential and renew on time.
  • “Anyone can register on Pearson.” Scheduling follows eligible Partner Academy registration. Partner Network affiliation is required.
  • “This prep site is the Partner Academy.” No — we link out; we do not host Anthropic’s Skilljar tenant or Pearson checkout.
  • “Associate is required before Developer.” No mandatory prior-cert chain. Pick by role; eligibility is partner status.

Why the split exists: public Academy scales teaching without turning every learner into a certification candidate; Partner Academy ties exams to organisations with a partner relationship; Pearson provides the proctoring rail that makes Credly an exam result rather than a course quiz. Learn wherever you are eligible; register only when partner-eligible.
